Hello out there fellow Household 6s!

Oh how I have waited for this month to arrive. As you know, baby Chloe arrived on July 27th. Wrena has gone back to school and is back on some sort of schedule. Most importantly and most exciting is that my Household 7 (that would be my husband - the next in charge) is returning from Iraq for mid tour leave. He'll get to see his baby girl for the first time! It seemed like the day would never come. I am so excited I cannot even begin to tell you. I do know however, that you completely understand!

This past month has been amazing and went by so very quickly. August was full of new things and for me personally it was a very eventful month. I want to say a sincere thank you to Star Henderson for the work she did while I was gone. Thanks to all of you who helped her out as well. It's an amazing job that I have that I was able to take some time off with such wonderful replacements.  Coming back to such a wonderful reception was equally rewarding.

Of course the blog is hopping over at LovingASoldier.com. I love hearing the stories about our lives and knowing there are so many benefiting from all of us sharing. I especially loved the emotional homecoming that Heather shared with us all. I could actually feel her excitement; couldn't you?

Like most months at AWTR, this month is full of information! We start off the month with a special "Labor" edition of Army Wife Life. September 10th, Star guest hosts again and interviews Doug Haveman for a soldier's perspective on PTSD. She will return on September 17th to talk about baby-proofing your marriage - this is sure to be a comical show! I'll return on the 24th to talk about our favorite thing - PCSing with Susan Miller.

Another new step in our show's life is taking shape this month. Next month, I'll have so much more to share with you. Start looking for AWTR to be on the "real" radio waves. We'll be teaming up with CinCHouse.com  to bring military families around the US, Military Wife Talk Radio. It's the real radio version of AWTR! Check it out - coming soon - MilitaryWifeTalkRadio.org

What a fun Army Wife Life filled month! Catch you on the airwaves!

Did you know that  POGs, the flat, disc-like, hard paper coins returned to deployed soldiers as "change" in theater are redeemable at your local exchange? Used overseas in contingency zones because it keeps the logistical costs of transporting real, heavy coins down, they are simply a gift-certificate allowing you to purchase items up to the face value of the coin. The images are so engaging though that more often you will find that soldiers collect, not spend, these disks. Read more at www.din.aafes.com/core/docs/pogcollect.asp.

5 More Humorous Marriage Tips

You Haven't Heard These Before...And They Work!

     Part 3/Final in a 3-Part Series

It works for Shamu. Positive reinforcement.  Quit nagging about the same annoying things your hubbie keeps doing.  Like dropping his dirty clothes on the floor.  Or leaving the kitchen cabinets open.  Or picking his toenails in bed. On those rare occasions when he surprises you and does things the “right” way, be sure you let him know that you noticed.  Give him a big smoocheroo.  A snuggly ‘ole hug.  Tell him, “You’re fabulous!  I’m so glad I married you.”  Make a BIG deal out of it.  When the whales at Sea World obey behavior commands from their trainers, they get what they want – yummy fish.  Want more fish?  Then do what you’re suppose to do.  It works on spouses, too.

You say To-mae-to, I say To-mah-to.  Sometimes you’re going to butt heads and there’s no compromise, no one wants to negotiate.  That’s just the way it is.  Period.  Accept your differing viewpoints and drop the subject.  If it’s really important, revisit it later when you’re both clearheaded.

Take the aerosol.  Some of the biggest arguments occur on the road when you’re in a hotel and everybody is sharing the same bathroom.  Without getting graphic, I’m certain you know what I mean! To prevent the annoyance and everything else that goes with it (usually the anger spills over into other parts of the day), take along a can of aerosol. Pleasing aromas do wonders for a relationship.

The 1-Week Mad-O-Meter.  Something your spouse did has really irked you.  Should you get mad?  Get even?  A good way to manage anger is to ask yourself, “How important will this be in a week?”  Answering the question will give you a gauge to keep your emotions in check and react appropriate to the incident.

If you have something bad to say about your spouse…say it to your spouse! Don’t call your girlfriends. Don’t gossip or bellyache to others.  It just stirs the pot more.  Isolate the problems and get together with your spouse at an agreed-upon time for the two of you to discuss your personal matters and come up with a game plan.  Both of you come to the “meeting” with ideas for solutions, not a bunch of complaints.

TTPs for the AWIC

...that's tips, techniques and procedures for the

Army Wife In Charge...

Tara asks, "What to do for those scuff marks?"

Apply toothpaste to a dry cloth and wipe scuff firmly. Once the mark has been removed, wipe area with a damp cloth. Or use an eraser--"the one's you just bought for back to school."

Beth says to do the "shoe-twist" to remove the scuffs most easily.

Leah called in...

to suggest using Rubbermaid bins to store off-season clothes and shoes. 5-6 inch containers work best for sliding right under your bed. Rubbermaid also had suggestions for care packages. Try searching Rubbermaid.com for "military" and see what you find.

Adrienne suggests using your weekend to the fullest...

Prep meats and sides on the weekend and freeze to use for a simplified mid-week meal.

Prep the children's clothes for the whole week by hanging complete outfits on a hanger, easy to access for you or your children.
